ICAR organized Interface Meeting cum project launching workshop on Pork marketing Chain in Northeast India

Livestock Production Division of the ICAR organized one day on Interface Meeting on “Pork marketing chain in northeast India” on 16th March 2020 to enhance income of the pig farmer and to boost piggey sector in the north east region of India. The new project on Pork Value Chain for empowering the tribal women in the region funded by National Agricultural Sciences Fund (NASF) was launched in the interface meeting with stakeholders. The multi-intuitional project will be implemented in Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland and partnering with Amity University, ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig (ICAR-NRCP) and ICAR- Research Complex-North Eastern Hill Region. In the inaugural programme, Dr. K. K. Baruah, Incharge Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region has emphasis the important of pig value chain in North-East India and supply chain management.

   

Dr. G. Kadirvel, Principal Scientist and organizer of the programme, initiated the meeting and briefed the project objectives, important of the project, management and governance of pork value chain and benefit of the piggry sector in the region. On the outset, Dr. Mahua Bhattacharjee, Professor, Amity University & PI of the project emphasized the importance of economic aspect, women health hazards and empowerment of the women in the pork value chain.

   

In this meeting different stakeholders including scientists, project investigators, research schoolers and experts from different discipline i.e. Animal Health, Economics and Social Science were participated. After comprehensive and systematic deliberations, road map was prepared for the future implementation in the three different states i.e. Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland. During this program the project was thoroughly discussed on  sample size, collection of primary and secondary data, mode of operation and other details were thoroughly discuss in this meeting. Since the pork marketing is the key factor for pork marketing value chain, various actors and player were thoroughly discuss with definite stakeholders, besides systematic discussion on assessment of  health risk to women in participating in pork value chain. Formulation of action plan and framework for tribal women to generate sustainable livelihood and economic empowerment with the family by participating in pork value chain was also discussed in the meeting. The progamme was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. G. Kadirvel, organizer and centre-PI.
